Kettering Medical Center to open $77M heart hospital next month

Kettering Medical Center plans to open its new $77 million heart hospital on Oct. 4.

The six-story Benjamin and Marian Schuster Heart Hospital will encompass five patient care floors and a lobby with a gift shop, bakery and pharmacy, the Dayton Business Journal reported.

All patient rooms are private and equipped with wireless Internet, 40-inch televisions, DVD players and large bathrooms.

The 120,000-square-foot hospital has 90 beds. Officials project that 6,000 catheterizations and 600 open-heart surgeries could be performed in its first year, according to a 2009 statement from Kettering (pdf).

Kettering Medical Center is part of Kettering Health Network, the Dayton area’s second-largest hospital system.
