Cleveland Clinic researchers are developing an iPad app to help doctors and athletic trainers better diagnose concussions.

The app works by strapping an iPad to an athlete’s waist and then measuring changes to the athlete’s postural stability on hard and soft surfaces.

“The idea behind the ipad concussion assessment app that we’re working on is to try and get a better picture or a better overall assessment of the major symptoms that are associated with concussion,” said Jay Alberts, a biomedical engineer with the Clinic who’s leading the research.

The app is being tested on about 100 football players.
