A software company making 3-D medical visualization and imaging analysis that allows technology for real-time exploration of inside the human body from any position has started off the year by raising $3.6 million.

According to its website, Intrinsic Medical Imaging LLC’s technology allows for noninvasive, interactive, full freedom of motion exploration of the body from all angles. It’s designed to use data to provide an inside-out visualization of the body to enhance diagnostics, presurgical planning and surgical treatment.

In U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission filings from February and March, the company disclosed $3.05 million and $585,000 offerings. A phone call to the company was not returned, but Intrinsic’s website says it’s expanding and looking to hire new team members, especially software engineers.

Global Industry Analysts Inc. estimates the global market for 3-D medical imaging will reach $5.9 billion by 2017, with the U.S. being the largest market. GE Healthcare, BodyViz and 3dMD are just a few of the other companies cashing in on advances in 3-D visualization technology that are making their way in various medical imaging techniques.
