The premier medical device and diagnostic technology event of the year, AdvaMed 2012: The MedTech Conference, is off to a strong start. For the first time since its inception in 2007, the MedTech Conference will be held outside of Washington, D.C. in the medical manufacturing hub of Boston, Mass., Oct. 1-3.

As of April 3, Abbott, Covidien, Ernst & Young and Kaplan EduNeering have signed up as host sponsors of AdvaMed 2012, along with 25 others providing support at varying levels. In addition, more than 27 supporting partner organizations from across the U.S. and Canada will take on a supporting role for the event, including MassMEDIC. Last year, more than 1,900 medical device and diagnostics professionals (including 420 CEOs, presidents and C-level executives) from more than 925 companies and organizations and representing 22 countries and 38 U.S. states attended AdvaMed 2011. Conference organizers are expecting between 2,200 and 2,500 attendees at the 2012 event in Boston.

AdvaMed 2012 registration and housing are now open and also tracking strong for 2012; the call for company presentations opened on April 2. Last year, more than 60 innovative companies gave presentations to 200-plus venture capitalists, angel and private equity investors, bankers and senior medical technology business development executives. In 2012, medical device and diagnostic manufacturers, tech transfer offices, incubators and investment funds are all encouraged to apply to present nine-minute presentations on Tuesday, Oct. 2 and Wednesday, Oct. 3. Applications will be accepted in the following categories: Blood, Cardiovascular, Dental, Diagnostics, Imaging, IVD, Health Information Technology, Metabolic Disease/Obesity, Neurology, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics/Spine, Technology Transfer Offices and Wound Healing & Tissue Regeneration.
