Boston Scientific announced Monday that it is collaborating with Royal Philips Electronics through which the Dutch company will sell Boston Scientific Imaging equipment compatible with its imaging systems globally.

Specifically, the marketing and distribution agreement relates to Boston Scientific’s iLabs ultrasound imaging system and its imaging catheters, which will now be sold with Philips’ Allura Xper catheterization (cath) lab systems. The agreement comes three weeks after St. Jude Medical announced an agreement with Abbott by which the two companies would be able to  bundle a package of cardiovascular products to hospital customers. An expert called that agreement a model for what will become increasingly the norm as physician influence wanes.

Boston Scientific’s iLab System is compatible and can be integrated with all major X-ray system,  including the Philips Allura Xper system, according to a news release. The imaging business includes  intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) and intracardiac echocardiography (ICE) imaging catheters.

“Boston Scientific is pleased to collaborate with Philips and establish the foundation for an ongoing relationship,” said Isaac Zacharias, general manager of Boston Scientific’s imaging business, in a news release.  “As premier providers of medical technology for cardiologists and electrophysiologists, this collaboration is expected to expand the ability of Boston Scientific and Philips to offer integrated solutions that improve ease of use and work flow for our worldwide customers.”
