As healthcare reform advances, health IT startups offering services to make healthcare delivery more efficient are in expansion mode.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics’ job report for September, published earlier this month, noted that payroll employment had increased by 114,000, notably from the healthcare sector (along with transportation and warehousing). Although many of the openings are in hospitals or home health, the jobs at healthcare startups tend to come under the heading of technology jobs.

In addition to healthcare, life science startups are also contributing to job growth. We had a look at who is hiring and what they’re looking for, and here are some of the results.

Voalte: a medical communications technology company that facilitates clinical communication between clinical care teams.

CareCloud: The healthcare IT company uses private, cloud-based software to manages electronic medical records. It also develops software to increase efficiency for medical practices. It’s in the process of expanding to Boston because it’s a healthcare hub, said John Hallock, a spokesman for the company. In the next five years as part of a plan to expand to 1,000 staff, it plans to open additional offices closer to the West Coast, Hallock said. “As our client base expands, it makes sense to have a presence in different regions.”

Where: It is currently adding jobs in Miami and Boston.

Jobs:  It’s seeking a vice president of engineering to lead its Boston operations. Among other positions it plans to add in Boston are software engineers and developers, product marketing, communications, and back-office medical billing management. Its website is advertising 11 jobs in Miami across marketing, operations and IT.

InstaMed, an electronic medical billing company that works with healthcare provides and payers through a private cloud network to make billing more efficient. It raised $14 million earlier this year in part to increase headroom. It’s adding 10 to 15 employees.

HemoShear, a biotechnology company that provides human and animal cell-based systems to pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies. These systems replicate organ systems and diseases to enable and improve drug discovery and development.

Where: Charlottesville, Virginia.

Jobs: The company is moving to a larger lab and so will be adding business and science staff.

CD Diagnostics is a joint fluid diagnostics firm in expansion mode. It is developing joint fluid tests to detect infection, osteoarthritis, Lyme disease and other conditions.

Where: Although the company is currently located in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania in suburban Philadelphia, it has been looking to move to Delaware. Other locations are also a possibility depending on the acquisitions.

Jobs: At the moment, it has positions for a Ph.D.-level scientist, an administrative level position and a sales and marketing job. More jobs will be added depending on its expansion.
