The medical device sector started in 1987 with the installation of a top company, Baxter Healthcare. Since then, the industry has been evolving and growing in size and complexity. From commodities to high-tech, highly regulated devices such as biological heart valves, aesthetic implants, and surgical systems, manufacturing plants have outperformed gaining a positive reputation that has facilitated and motivated the transfer of more production lines to the country.

Today, the sector plays an important role in Costa Rica’s economy. In 2011, exports of medical devices accounted for 3.0% of the country’s GDP and represented 11.8% of the total exports of goods (US $1.2 billion).

Costa Rica’s Investment Promotion Agency (CINDE) can take part of the credit. They’ve done an extraordinary job attracting more than 40 medical device companies. (The stable democracy, educated workforce, and tax benefits didn’t hurt either!)

Find out yourself March 18-20, 2013 what role Costa Rica might play in your company’s growth and expansion at CINDE’s “Life Sciences Forum” in San Jose.

Topics will include market entry strategies and marketing, the real value of accredited certification, hurdles in the regulatory environment, global supply chains, an OEM’s perspective on supplier development, and doing business in Costa Rica.

Government officials will be there to interact with you and some of the nation’s largest medical device players will open their doors to you!

At the conclusion of the program, you’re invited to tour one of Costa Rica’s OEM facilites. Choose among: St. Jude, Allergan, Baxter, Boston Scientific (Heredia), Hologic, Covidien, Abbott, Boston Scientific (Coyol), and Hospira.

Will you be there? If you like, leave a comment so our readers can plan to meet you in person.
