A mobile platform on-call physicians see images and test results quickly

Photon Medical Communications has opened a $1 million equity offering, according to a securities filing. CEO Dr. Gregory Grant did not respond to a request for more information.

Photon provides a HIPAA-compliant way for hospitals to relay images, patient information and lab results to on-call specialists via their mobile devices. Physicians can respond with directions using text or the voice transcription tool.

Formed by a group of physicians, technologists and healthcare business professionals, Photon says it’s not part of the “IT Paradox” that’s plagued healthcare, in which health information technology continues to improve but actually slows down productivity of doctors because they aren’t involved in the design process early enough.

There are a few competitors in this market including accelarad and DocbookMD. Phoenix, Arizona-based photon was formed in 2011.
