What took so long?

Saturday Night Live got a guest appearance from Aaron Paul – better known as TV’s Jesse Pinkman – who helped put together an SNL Obamacare skit to kickoff the show’s new season. It is the ideal collision of pop culture and politics: a runaway popular show about an honest schoolteacher who starts cooking meth to pay his medical bills with the hotly contested legislation to give everyone health insurance.

Paul plays his Pinkman character perfectly: a half-a-brained meth dealer/addict with a heart who just says whatever is on his mind.

“I have this friend who got sick – like cancer sick. But because there wasn’t Obamacare he couldn’t afford the treatments. So he was backed into a corner..”

“Keep in mind this man was a teacher with a family,” interjects the Obama character.

“So he did what any of us would have done – he started cooking meth,” he said

There are a couple more characters in the skit you’ll enjoy: from a cigarette-smoking emergency room doctor who admits she has no idea what the law does (but does add: “Obamacare or no Obamacare people need to stop putting things up their butts”) to a woman who proclaims she stopped washing her hands and started licking subway poles because how with free healthcare she can get as sick all the time.

“Free medicine y’all!” she yells.
