In a new interview with OZY, former President Bill Clinton says there are three problems with the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, one of which could be fixed by changing the law.

That big problem is that hundreds of thousands of Americans, especially young, healthy adults, are having their insurance policies canceled, in stark contrast to the “you can keep your healthcare plan” promise President Barack Obama used repeatedly in describing his healthcare reform plan.

Republicans, of course, and some Democrats have criticized this point. Former Democratic party President Clinton had this to say: “I personally believe, even if it takes a change in the law, the president should honor the commitment the federal made to those people and let them keep what they got,” Clinton said in the interview.

The other two glaring problems Clinton sees with the law? First is the disastrous rollout of the federal website, which he was quick to remind everyone happened before when President George W. Bush rolled out the Medicare drug-benefit in the mid-2000s. Then there’s the fact that many Republican states are opting out of Medicaid expansion, leaving many low-income workers in a sticky situation.

But Clinton said he thinks this problem will be remedied over time as more states change their minds, like Ohio and Michigan did, once they see how it works in other states.
