Northwestern University and Insight Product Development are inviting medical device and digital health startups to apply for the Chicago HealthTECH Summit Competition, in what organizers said is the first medical technology crowd funding opportunity in the Midwest.

The competition was created to help startups bring innovations to market by allowing prospective users and stakeholders to vet their ideas and contribute funds, organizers said. The purpose is to encourage entrepreneurship in the healthcare industry, grow the medical innovation ecosystem in the Midwest, and connect local corporations with early-stage companies.

The competition will include a month-long crowd funding campaign on MedStartr leading up to a live awards and fundraising event at the HealthTECH Summit on October 23.

Local startups interested in applying to the competition are encouraged to complete the short online application. The online application deadline is Sept. 1.
