Healthbox opened four healthcare startup accelerators this fall and is gearing up for another in London. Each one has its own flavor depending on the partners involved. It has raised a $1.39 million fund to support its  Salt Lake City accelerator, according to a Form D filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

In an interview with Healthbox director Jill Seidman she said the funding will be used to support accelerator companies as well as follow-on funding.

Seidman said the Salt Lake City office has partnerships with Intermountain  Healthcare, HealthEquity,  Zion’s Bank and  Becton,  Dickinson  and  Company and it has a strong focus on medical devices.

In addition to Salt Lake City, this fall it has opened accelerators in Chicago, Tampa, and Tel Aviv.

Apart from the accelerators, Healthbox began rolling out services for the healthcare startup ecosystem earlier this year.  It is bringing its accelerator model to hospital systems through a service called Foundry. It wants to use expertise gleaned from evaluating 1,500 companies which have applied to the Healthbox accelerators to help healthcare organizations do a better job of sourcing, evaluating and scaling ideas within their own organizations. It will also work with health systems to develop innovation and venture investment programs. Healthbox Solutions, will work with startups to help them develop business development plans and get their products in front of providers.
