An unidentified woman has filed a lawsuit against Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center after a nurse shared a photo online of her injuries following a suicide attempt. Well, the unnamed nurse shared the photo with someone who then gave it to a man named Joshua Shivers who then posted it to a “shock” website, according to Reuters.

This part is disturbing.

The woman tried to kill herself by gouging out her eyeballs with pencils. The photo taken by the nurse is of the woman’s face with “intact pencils sticking out of her eyes,” according to the lawsuit. The woman is now blind as a result.

Shivers used his mother’s computer to post the photo to the undisclosed website and it was viewed more than 192,000 times.

“Everybody knows that as soon as someone gets their hands on something like this, it goes viral and the harm is done,” said her lawyer Douglas Johnson, who specializes in privacy cases.

The defendants listed in the case are Shivers and his mother. The woman has received psychiatric care and learned braille following the incident but is reportedly suffering from depression after the photo went viral.

Editor’s note: We have chosen not to share a link to the photo out of respect for the woman’s privacy.
