When Forbes asked Sandra Fenwick, CEO of Boston Children’s Hospital, what advice she had for women advancing in leadership, she said this:

“Have passion, be nimble and be bold. There’s really no substitute for hard work, dedication and consistent high performance, but you must have a vision for what’s possible and a commitment to leading with honesty, humility and courage. Have courage to take risks, both for yourself and for your organization. At Boston Children’s, women lead in business development, finance, marketing and philanthropy, as well as across clinical and research areas. To advance in leadership, women must have an understanding of the whole business across all elements.”

These qualities are likely present for all of the honorees in this year’s Forty Women to Watch over 40, which was created by Christina Vuleta and Whitney Johnson to bring awareness to the reality that innovation gets even better with age.

In the healthcare field, these three women made this list:

Dr. Diane Griffin – Chair in Molecular Microbiology and Immunology and Alfred and Jill Sommer Professor at Johns Hopkins, Bloomberg School of Public Health.

Dr. Joanne Kamens – Executive Director, Addgene.

Sue Chen – Founder and Chief Executive Officer at NOVA Medical Products

Our congrats to these women for making the list and for their continuing contribution to the industry.
