The color of your urine could be telling you something about your health condition. Yes, your standard yellow is where you want to be, but the different shades of the rainbow make an appearance on occasion.

It’s not always scary when you’re pee is red, for example. Eating beets can result in beeturia—the passing of red or pink urine because of a compound called betanin in the vegetable. But on the other hand, the red pigment could be caused by kidney disease or a urinary tract infection.

The Cleveland Clinic has put together this useful infographic to help you navigate what your pee might be trying to tell you, considering it is a pretty useful resource for diagnostics (if you’re seriously concerned you should always see a doctor).

The graphic is helpful, but it does state that purple pee doesn’t exisit – Mayo Clinic begs to differ. There is a rare inherited red blood disorder called porphyria, which does end up having a symptom of purple urine. But regardless, this chart should be helpful for those concerned about the hue of their urine.
