Edison Nation Medical and New York’s Mount Sinai Health System today announced a partnership that aims to bring medical devices and other consumer-related healthcare inventions from the hospital directly to market.

Edison will work closely with Mount Sinai Innovation Partners, the hospital’s technology development and commercialization group, the two companies said in an announcement.

Through the partnership, Mount Sinai and Edison Nation Medical are hoping to expand innovation beyond the lab, by encouraging contributions from across the health system — including primary care and clinical service personnel — to share ideas.

Myriad hospitals have adopted similar initiatives, hoping to capitalize on in-house creations through public-private partnerships, including the Cleveland Clinic, Boston Children’s Hospital and Intermountain Healthcare, among others.

North Carolina-based Edison describes itself as a healthcare marketplace, focused on early-stage startups and matching investors, entrepreneurs and universities with potential manufacturing partners.

Under the agreement with Mount Sinai, the hospital will submit appropriate inventions in the clinical tool and medical device spaces to Edison Nation Medical.
