The microbiota isn’t even as deep as it gets
Your DNA is chock-full of endogenous retroviruses
Your ancestor got an STD
It got trapped in your genome next to the rest of your genes
And adapted to help your placenta get implanted
So next time you catch a virus, maybe you should thank it
Canadian rapper Baba Brinkman spit some ill rhymes in his latest album, “The Rap Guide to Medicine” – eight songs with topics ranging from aging to the microbiome. The style’s more evocative of Eminem – with a doctorate – than Weird Al.
Brinkman’s oeuvre of nerd rap has been pretty consistent – his other albums cover topics like religion, evolution and swordplay. He’s known among the theater elite, having performed his Rap Guide to Religion, for instance, off-Broadway – and received a critic’s pick from the New York Times. And here he is, giving a TEDxKids talk (rap) on evolution.
Give it a listen. It’s sick.
