A new mobile health business called HealthGrid has developed a pair of mobile collaboration apps it claims meet the criteria set down for Meaningful Use Stage 2, according to a company statement.
Care Narrative transmits a summary of care between providers. It also offers a snapshot of a patient’s condition and provides a way for healthcare professionals to communicate about patient care by letting them create and exchange notes within the app. It also delivers patient summary of care records during referrals.
CareNotify updates patient families with information such as patient schedules, medication lists, nutritional updates and educational content. Patients can also gain access to their care summaries. Patients and families can access discharge instructions on mobile devices.
The founders are brothers who both have previous experience in starting health IT companies. Raj Toleti, a co-founder and chairman, is also the CTO of Coordinated Care Solutions at PatientPoint a health IT company he founded. He had also worked with co-founder Chakri Toleti when they started and they later sold their health IT business Galvanon to NCR in 2005. Chakri is the CEO of HealthGrid.
A recent survey showed that patients want access to patient portals but access has been an issue since some hospitals have them and others don’t. In a 2,000+ person survey by Xerox and Harris Poll, 64 percent said they don’t currently use online patient portals, but 57 percent said they would be more interested in their personal healthcare if they did. But although lack of awareness has been one challenge, some have claimed to have an underwhelming experience.
