When MedCity News launched MedCity ENGAGE two years ago, there was a dramatic learning curve for healthcare.

There weren’t just unknowns in a new world of healthcare delivery. Whole cliques within medicine didn’t get engagement. Data was nascent. The C-suite needed convincing. Patients were still seen as patients – and less the healthcare consumers they are today.

The patient-driven healthcare conversation in 2015 is so different. The medical industry is still seeking solutions. But there is a sophisticated conversation taking place. Everyone wants to get together to solve these problems.

So that’s what is going to happen at this year’s MedCity ENGAGE on July 14-15 in Bethesda. MedCity News won’t just gather a diverse collection of elite thought-leaders to discuss the latest innovations in patient engagement and healthcare delivery. But we’ll provide three workshops in which select attendees with create a solution, present it to the entire audience, and the best solution will be coverage and examine for the rest of the year on MedCityNews.com.

The early-bird rate is still available for this conference. So reserve your tickets now.

We’re also rounding out our speakers and sponsors for the conference. Register to be considered for some of the final speaking spots, and connect with MedCity News’ events team to inquire about a sponsorship.

A Deep-dive Into Specialty Pharma

A specialty drug is a class of prescription medications used to treat complex, chronic or rare medical conditions. Although this classification was originally intended to define the treatment of rare, also termed “orphan” diseases, affecting fewer than 200,000 people in the US, more recently, specialty drugs have emerged as the cornerstone of treatment for chronic and complex diseases such as cancer, autoimmune conditions, diabetes, hepatitis C, and HIV/AIDS.

Last year, MedCity ENGAGE drew in the likes of Joy Pritts and Dr. Joseph Smith to share an insider’s vision of healthcare. Then we doubled down with unique approaches: industry outsiders from the media, marketing and service industries outlined how they treat consumers. We also hosted a Patients Town Hall that reflected on the conference, and brought in an independent film, Code Black, that documented the struggles of emergency room residents navigating “new healthcare.”

We’ll have that same spirit in a new way at MedCity ENGAGE 2015. Sharp thinkers will discuss empowering use of data and apps, Population Health 2.0, transparency, patient perspectives and policy challenges at the state and federal levels.

But it’s the workshops that are new this year. Participants from all sectors of healthcare will huddle together on Day 1 to provide a solution for specific challenges, such as using engagement-rich messaging or deploying health data stories. On Day 2, each team will take the stage, present their solution and the audience will vote on their favorite.

The winning solution will be posted on MedCityNews.com, sent out to MedCity’s 30,000+ e-mail subscribers, and the issue will be covered and explored for the rest of the year by the reporters at MedCity News.

That’s the kind of modern collaboration that will help support trends in patient engagement.

Please join us at MedCity ENGAGE on July 14-15 in Bethesda.
