Pfizer faces scrutiny in the Philadelphia Courts in the wake of a warning it received more than a year ago about the causal link between Zoloft and birth defects. The company is currently facing more than 1,000 lawsuits filed over the sale of Zoloft and has rejected responsibility for abnormalities.

The American Medical Association adopted a tougher policy line on childhood vaccinations and said it would seek to end religious exemptions.

Under new policy, the AMA will seek more stringent state immunization requirements to allow exemptions only for medical reasons,” the organization said in a press release.

The AMA also adopted a policy to provide medical students with “hands-on” experience and training for electronic health records. Under supervision, this policy will allow medical students to learn how to use EHRs to document patient encounters and enter clinical orders.

A bipartisan bill introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives would add behavioral health providers to the Meaningful Use program. Reps. Tim Murphy (R-Pa.) and Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-Texas) co-sponsored the bill, Helping Families in Mental Health Crisis Act, a revision of a 2013 bill. It would expand the Meaningful Use program to clinical psychologists, licensed social workers, mental health treatment centers, substance abuse treatment facilities and psychiatric hospitals.
