4 Marc Benioff quotes that show how his business philosophy will continue to improve healthcare

The Salesforce CEO is clear about the way he does business, and the best way to describe it is thoughtful.

Salesforce.com has officially announced the launch of Salesforce Health Cloud, a new patient relationship management product that could potentially surpass the prominent use of Electronic Health Records (if Marc Benioff’s track record is any indication).

The Salesforce founder and CEO is known for making smart investments and business decisions before anyone could even know they would be so smart.

For that reason we’ve decided to pull some quotes from Benioff that demonstrate his compassionate point of view and indicate why his success will continue to be a positive force in healthcare.

To read more about the Salesforce Health Cloud announcement itself, check out our account on the news and three specific takes on the new product.

Benioff’s “1-1-1” philosophy:

The concept that I like the most, and the one that I’ve taken most to heart, is the belief that people can’t be united or focused unless they share a common philosophy—a philosophy that gives their effort a greater meaning.

I’ve seen how important this concept is in business. To be truly successful, companies need to have a corporate mission that is bigger than making a profit. We try to follow that at salesforce.com, where we give 1% of our equity, 1% of our profits, and 1% of our employees’ time to the community. By integrating philanthropy into our business model our employees feel that they do much more than just work at our company. By sharing a common and important mission, we are united and focused, and have found a secret weapon that ensures we always win.

On why he decides to invest in startups like Fitbit and ZocDoc in their early stages:

To quote Andy Grove, “Only the paranoid survive.” You have to be ready to have a beginner’s mind and constantly be creating the future. Always be ready to start again. And don’t be afraid to throw everything away and restart. I think that’s what you see in people like Neil Young who are not singing the same songs they were. I mean, he’s still singing “Heart of Gold” and “Old Man,” but he’s also writing new songs.

On the future of technology:

Trust is a serious problem, we have to get to a new level of transparency – only through radical transparency will we get to radical new levels of trust.

On purpose, customers and success:

Once you know what you want and what is important for you to achieve, also define the values associated with it. What is important? That is something a lot of entrepreneurs pass by too quickly. For us, the things that were important were, No. 1, customer success. Nothing is more important to us than making sure every customer is successful in our service.
