Michael Dell to keynote HIMSS16 as company prepares to sell healthcare biz

2014 Social Good Summit - Day 2

Getting excited to hear Michael Dell speak during the opening session of HIMSS16 Monday evening? He probably isn’t.

Dell will get up on stage at the Venetian hotel-casino in Las Vegas and presumably talk about how important healthcare is to his eponymous computer company. He might even discuss some new healthcare insights from the Dell Global Technology Adoption Index survey that actually came out last week.

But the CEO might really just be going through the motions. That’s because Round Rock, Texas-based Dell reportedly is negotiating to sell off its healthcare consulting and services business.

According to a widely cited Reuters report earlier this month, Dell has selected Japan’s NTT Data to purchase the Perot Systems unit Dell acquired in 2009. That deal brought one of the world’s largest IT consulting businesses — including the health IT practice — into the Dell fold. Now, it’s about to leave.
