Cedars-Sinai hosts its first Techstars healthcare accelerator: Who made the cut?

Cedars-Sinai's first healthcare startup accelerator with Techstars includes 11 startups, whittled down from 500 applicants.

Techstars healthcare accelerator with Cedars-Sinai has selected 11 healthcare startups to match the priorities of the Los Angeles nonprofit academic medical center. The program is housed at the Cedars-Sinai Innovation Space adjacent to the hopsital. In an interview with Matt Kozlov, the managing director of the Techstars accelerator at Cedars-Sinai, he talked about the selection process, which started in October.

“We cast a deliberately broad net because we did not want to be influenced by what the market trends were. We were surprised at the breadth of companies in healthcare, end-of-life planning and machine learning,” Kozlov said.

He noted that the 11-member class, whittled down from 500 applicants, reflects a cross-section of technology, as well as clinician and patient-focused companies. They also address a wide variety of customers.
