PokitDok adds pharma benefit APIs to give actionable info on prescription medication

The health IT company launched the latest group of APIs at the American Telemedicine Association conference in Minneapolis this week.

pokitdok apiPokitDok has launched a set of APIs to make it easier to transmit data on pharma benefits and medication pricing information, according to a company statement. The goal is to ensure that eligibility, coverage, and price data are available before doctors write prescriptions. It’s intended to support in-person and virtual medical appointments.

The health IT company launched the latest group of APIs at the American Telemedicine Association conference in Minneapolis this week.

Even though hospitals and practices maintain electronic health records, prescription benefits may not be integrated into the system because the e-prescribing technology is outmoded.

PokitDok’s APIs provide drug information, formularies, Medicare Part D pharmacy network and pricing data through an API that uses data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and First DataBank, the statement said.

Several companies have developed APIs around pharmacy benefits such as Iodine, RxREVU, and PillFill.

Earlier this month PokitDok joined the CommonWell Health Alliance, a group supporting efforts to make patient data more accessible to providers and patients towards interoperability.
