As the medical imaging analysis space continues to heat up, Zebra Medical Vision has raised $12 million in a round led by new, strategic investor Intermountain Healthcare, according to a company statement.
The health system will collaborate with Zebra to accelerate the creation of meaningful imaging algorithms for patient care, the statement said.

Other investors taking part in the round included Dolby Family Ventures, Israeli crowdfunding business OurCrowd, Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff and Khosla Ventures.
The two year old radiology imaging analysis business based in Israel launched with the intention of introducing automation to the process of reading and interpreting medical imaging data and reducing the cost of overtesting — a space that includes companies such as Candescent Health and Enlitic. Its technology analyzes millions of imaging records and seeks to improve workflow efficiency.

“Radiologists seek to find answers to the reasons a study was performed. They do not have the capability to fully analyze every imaging study, or search for every possible pathology. Our Analytics Engine allows unlocking findings that are not necessarily the reason for which the patient came in for — but are there and are relevant. These include osteoporosis, emphysema, fatty liver and others.”
The company’s algorithms run on imaging studies that have already been prescribed for other reasons and allow the “full” extraction of all relevant clinical findings, Benjamin said.
Aside from its collaboration with Intermountain, he noted that Zebra has run pilots at Henry Ford Health System, Atlantic Health, Clalit Health System in Israel, and Assistance Publique in France, among others.
Zebra provides results from its image analysis back to the hospital’s Picture Archiving and Communications System, Radiology Information System or Electronic Medical Record of the institution. It charges institutions a volume-based annual subscription fee.
