HealthPrize closes Series B round to support international expansion of medication adherence tech

The financing will be used primarily to expand the HealthPrize team to respond to its growing customer base in the U.S. as well as markets in Europe and Latin America, according to a company statement.

HealthPrize, which offers points towards prizes in exchange for meeting patient engagement goals, has raised a new round of funding. It is moving beyond pharmaceutical companies such as payers, risk bearing provider groups and self-insured employers as well as beyond the U.S. for its international expansion, according to the statement.

HealthPrize has implemented programs across primary care and specialty conditions in the U.S., and has programs in North America, Latin America, Europe and emerging markets.

Drug delivery business West Pharmaceuticals and Boehringer Ingelheim are among its partners. Earlier this month, Boehringer Ingelheim  Pharmaceuticals launched RespiPoints as part of a collaboration with HealthPrize. It’s a free online program to educate and reward people using Spiriva Respimat to treat their COPD.

Improving patient engagement has been one of many priorities to reduce needless complications and subsequent hospitalizations arising from poor adherence for people with chronic conditions. It is also an area that has seen many companies attempt to provide a solution.
