The state of Nebraska is modernizing its Medicaid program.

With the assistance of Edifecs, a health IT solutions company, Nebraska’s Medicaid program officially implemented and went live on a new electronic data interchange platform.

Now, the Medicaid program’s transactions will be deployed onto Bellevue, Washington-based Edifecs’ Smart Trading Platform, thereby reducing potential risks regarding claims. The Smart Trading Platform simplifies data automation, streamlines interoperability and works to reduce administrative costs.

Specifically for Nebraska, the Edifecs implementation encompasses a transaction-focused platform delivered by experts in the field. The Smart Trading Platform also includes EDI operations.

Together, Edifecs and the Nebraska Medicaid teams are jointly replacing the Medicaid program’s old EDI platform. By working with each other, the groups were able to ensure the project was cutting costs and being overseen by subject matter specialists.

In a statement, Edifecs CEO Sunny Singh commented on the announcement:

A Deep-dive Into Specialty Pharma

A specialty drug is a class of prescription medications used to treat complex, chronic or rare medical conditions. Although this classification was originally intended to define the treatment of rare, also termed “orphan” diseases, affecting fewer than 200,000 people in the US, more recently, specialty drugs have emerged as the cornerstone of treatment for chronic and complex diseases such as cancer, autoimmune conditions, diabetes, hepatitis C, and HIV/AIDS.

We recognize how important EDI platform modernization is in order for healthcare organizations to realize the benefits of enhanced interoperability. We’re committed to applying our technology and subject matter expertise to help our customers implement these updates. With our partnership in place, Nebraska’s Medicaid program has enhanced their ability to process claims seamlessly across all participating entities.

Founded by Singh in 1996, Edifecs seeks to help companies reduce costs and waste while increasing revenue. The company has over 350 healthcare clients, including 70 provider organizations in 23 states. Its footprint also includes 60 percent of the U.S. Medicaid program, as well as 73 percent of the BlueCross BlueShield plans and 50 of the biggest commercial health plans.

Edifecs also creates supply chain management solutions for more than 50 non-healthcare clients across the globe.

For its part, Nebraska has not opted to expand its Medicaid program at this time.
