Startup taking SaaS approach to telehealth gets $14M

EVisit, an Arizona startup that is building an end-to-end telehealth platform for health systems and physician practices, raised $14 million.

Seeing a need to reach patients virtually, health systems have picked up a patchwork of telehealth solutions since the start of the pandemic. In some cases, these one-off tools didn’t integrate directly into health record systems, leaving clinics to bring in virtual scheduling tools and waiting rooms to fill in the gaps.

One startup is taking a software-as-a-service approach in designing a telehealth system that covers everything from scheduling to payment. Mesa, Arizona-based eVisit recently raised $14 million in funding to build out its software.

More than 100 hospitals and health systems currently use its telehealth platform, including Phoenix-based Banner Health and nonprofit hospital chain Advent Health. In addition to managing telehealth visits, the platform includes patient scheduling, intake, waiting room management, payment and patient discharge tools.

It recently rolled out a new feature for quick visits that don’t require patient registration, such as a follow-up call after a procedure or to talk about lab results.

TVC Capital, a San Diego-based growth equity firm that primarily invests in software companies, led eVisit’s series A round. Kickstart Seed Fund, University Growth Fund and angel investor Jeremy Andrus also participated in the round.

“The telehealth market is exploding with rapid provider and end user adoption of this critical capability.  We were extremely impressed with the depth of this enterprise-class service offering, which was validated by the breadth of adoption by their large and sophisticated customer base,” TVC Capital Managing Partner Steve Hamerslag said in a news release.

Bret Larsen, eVisit’s co-founder and CEO, said the company planned to use the funds to build out its technology platform, customer care and sales teams.

“This new round is a testament to the collective confidence from these partners in our ability to power the virtual care strategies and execution for hospitals and health systems across North America,” he said in a news release.
