GSK veteran takes on a leadership role at rival Pfizer

GlaxoSmithKline R&D executive Dr. Yvonne Greenstreet has taken a new job at Pfizer, where the veteran will now take on a leadership role in Pfizer's specialty care business unit.

Pfizer has picked up an R&D executive from rival GlaxoSmithKline to lead global growth of its business unit that develops medicines for life threatening conditions.

Dr. Yvonne Greenstreet will start on Feb. 1 as Pfizer’s (NYSE:PFE) senior vice president and head of medicines development for the company’s specialty care business. Specialty care’s current portfolio includes more than 20 drugs in 12 disease areas. It has a pipeline of more than 25 compounds in mid- and late stage clinical trials. With the acquisition of Wyeth, specialty care also includes vaccines. Specialty care is one of five business units in Pfizer’s biopharmaceuticals division. Specialty care is the second largest unit by revenue, accounting for $7.3 billion of the $45.4 billion in 2009 revenue brought in by the biopharmaceuticals division.

Greenstreet has spent 18 years at London-based GSK (NYSE:GSK), which has it’s U.S. headquarters in North Carolina’s Research Triangle Park. Most recently, she was senior vice president and chief of strategy, research and development where she oversaw a variety of R&D activities. Before joining GSK, Greenstreet practiced medicine in the United Kingdom’s National Health Service.
