Boston Scientific Corp. (NYSE:BSX) plans to hire 250 new employees for its manufacturing operation in Latin America, according to a report from Costa Rica.
The Natick, Mass.-based medical device maker is expanding its engineering, production, quality control and process development roles in Heredia, just outside the capital city of San Jos . BSX also has a plant in Alajuela, Costa Rica, according to Inside Costa Rica.
All told, the company has hired about 2,000 workers in all in Costa Rica since it first opened the Heredia factory in 2004, according to the English language news outlet.
Boston Scientific expanded its Costa Rican operation in 2009, when it shuttered a plant in Doral, Fla., and moved its operations to the Alajuela facility.
The isthmus nation is a hub for medical device manufacturing, with companies including Tegra Medical, St. Jude Medical (NYSE:STJ) and Baxter International (NYSE:BAX) employing about 9,000 workers total. Boston Scientific is Costa Rica’s largest life science exported, according to Inside Costa Rica. The Heredia plant makes endoscopy, urology and cardiology products, according to the website.
