Ohio State medical school taps Yale professor as new dean

The Ohio State University College of Medicine has picked a former chair of Yale University’s department of obstetrics as its new dean.

The appointment of Dr. Charles Lockwood would be effective Sept. 1, and is subject to approval from the university’s board of trustees, according to a statement from the university.

A professor at Yale, Lockwood also held the title of department chair of of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences. Prior to joining the Yale faculty he was chair of obstetrics and gynecology at New York University.

Lockwood’s primary clinical interests include the prevention of recurrent pregnancy loss, preterm delivery, and maternal thrombophilias, and he has been credited with helping to develop fetal fibronectin, the first biochemical predictor of prematurity, according to the statement.
