Morning Read: Is healthcare reform causing insurers to improve customer service?

May 30, 2012 8:59 am by | 0 Comments

Usually known for less than stellar customer service, it looks like health insurance companies are paying more attention to customers in response to healthcare reform. UnitedHealth Group, Cigna and Health Care Service Corp. saw gains in their customer service ratings in a recent report as they focus more on interaction with patients in preparation for competing against each other with similar benefit packages in health insurance exchanges, Forbes reports.

The U.S. won’t be seeing a generic version of Lipitor from the world’s largest generic drug manufacturer after all. Teva Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ:TEVA) says it won’t launch atorvastatin, leaving Ranbaxy and Watson to compete for market shares of Lipitor.

Speaking of Teva, the FDA is warning that counterfeit versions of its 30-mg generic Adderall tablets are being sold on the internet. Adderall is on the FDA’s drug shortage list because of supply issues with its active ingredient.

Would AstraZeneca, which has been under pressure to expand its pipeline in the wake of generic competition, be better off shrinking instead of growing?
