Mayo Clinic announced Tuesday that it is partnering with Silicon Valley Biosystems, a California diagnostics company, to provide better genomics diagnostics and interpretation.

Described as a “strategic relationship,” the financial terms of the partnership weren’t disclosed.

Under the agreement, SV Bio will provide its genome interpretation solution services and clinical decision support services to Mayo. Mayo will use that to provide better genomics interpretation to providers worldwide.  The partnership will also use SV Bio’s services in conjunction with Mayo’s  growing genome reference library to further the Clinic’s aim to improve personalized medicine through its Center for Individualized Medicine.

“We are now able to take data from any next-generation sequencer and determine with clinical-grade sensitivity and specificity which variants within a patient’s DNA sequence are influencing a disease or condition, and rapidly provide a report for the clinician that is clear and actionable,” said Dietrich Stephan, founder, president and CEO of SV Bio, in a statement. “This level of speed, accuracy and integration into the clinical work flow is not only a first for molecular testing, but also a sea change in the application of next-generation sequencing with no compromise of quality in clinical diagnostics.”

Mayo Medical Laboratories, a reference lab, will work with SV Bio to improve its approaches genome interpretation.
