10 funny and strange moments in the latest Obamacare cartoon

The latest YouToons video from the Kaiser Family Foundation is a wonderful mix of humor, information and strangeness as “your fellow” Americans explain what the insurance marketplaces do.

First, bonus points to the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation for taking a 21st-century approach to marketing the Affordable Care Act and health insurance marketplaces. It’s not a brochure, it’s not a destination website that no one will read, it’s not an app that no one will download.

The YouToons Get Ready for Obamacare” is a YouTube video, easily shared and full of viral potential. Even better, there are several funny moments in the video: a mention of the ACA surviving Mayan Apocalypse,  the marketplace’s name, “Ye Olde Insurance Shoppe,” and grumpy guy having to pay higher taxes to pay for the insurance expansion.

The cartoon doesn’t ignore the shortcomings of the law or its unpopular elements (taxes) either. It also calls out a few villains.

It’s definitely worth your time to watch all six minutes and 53 seconds. I picked my 10 favorite moments from the cartoon to highlight the sometimes strange symbolism and subtle social commentary. Watch for the other funny bits (the inhaler kid as the preexisting condition patient) and share your favorite moment in the comments.
