After having graduated its inaugural class of health IT entrepreneurs over the summer, DreamIt Ventures is looking for applicants again, this time in Baltimore. It has expanded its DreamIt Health accelerator for health IT startups through partnerships with Johns Hopkins University and BioHealth Innovation.

BioHealth Innovation is an organization that accelerates and facilitates technology transfer and commercialization of market-relevant research in federal labs, universities, and biohealth companies in Maryland.

It’s currently accepting applications from health IT entrepreneurs through November 11. Ten startups will be chosen for the 2014 program, which will run from January 17th to May 9. Although startups can apply from around the world, they have to be based in Baltimore for the duration of the four-month program. The 10 that are selected will get $50,000 and work closely with mentors with a track record as  entrepreneurs.

Health IT entrepreneur Dr. Eliot Menschik ran the Philadelphia program from the co-working space Venturef0rth and will also run the Baltimore program with a yet to be named partner. His own health IT company, Hx Technologies, was acquired by MEDecision, the health IT subsidiary of Health Care Service Corp.

“We’ve learned that, in health care in particular, the most important thing we can do to help founders and reduce investor risk is to enable access to resources typically out of the reach of most startups,” said Menschik in a company. statement. “Working closely with Johns Hopkins and BHI opens up stellar opportunities for these teams to pressure-test and speed to market their solutions to significant problems that plague patients, providers, payers and other industry stakeholders.”
