Aramark has opened a technology and innovation center in Charlotte, North Carolina to do a better job of working with hospitals to fix hospital’s imaging and equipment, according to a company statement.

Victor Crawford, COO of Aramark’s Healthcare Sector, said the center would include supply chain management, research and development to improve the way it plans and manages customized programs to optimize its hospital partners’ investment in clinical equipment.

“Innovation comes in many shapes and sizes and when clinical equipment in hospitals is not operable, it impacts patient care,” Crawford added.

It’s also using remote monitoring so that engineers at the center can access equipment located at Aramark’s hospital clients and troubleshoot problems in realtime before the hospital realizes there’s a problem.

The center includes simulated patient care suites to provide technical training and quality assurance testing with more than 32 active MRI, CT Scan, Catheterization lab, and X-Ray systems. The idea is to help engineers keep up with technical advancement and train on specific systems in Aramark’s customer hospitals, regardless of the equipment manufacturer, the statement said.

It also integrates Aramark’s ReMedPar unit, which provides diagnostic and imaging parts and components. The company’s parts inventory is now housed in a 90,000 square foot facility, including a near clean room environment for sensitive electronic components.

The company manages more than 1.7 million pieces of equipment at roughly 500 healthcare organizations at 1,100 locations.
