What if you were in the military, shot, and the bullet hit an artery? Blood loss from a wound like that could kill you in just minutes. What medics would generally have in that situation (in addition to the application of pressure) wouldn’t be able to stop the bleeding in time.

Fellow Joe Landolina talks about his invention, a medical gel, which uses an understanding of the Extracellular Matrix to help quickly address a severe wound by taking advantage of the human body’s own ways of healing. The product will be available for use by veterinarians by early 2015, and Landolina says, hopefully available for use in humans within the next year.
