In a sign that Google Glass is perhaps not dead yet, San Francisco-based Augmedix said it has raises $16 million in a Series A round, enabling the company to target physicians with Glass combined with EHRs.

The funding was led by the company’s seed investors, Emergence Capital and DCM Venturs. Augmedix has now raised $23 million in total and will use the cash to expand operations, fuel product development and establish new partnerships.

Founded in 2012, Augmedix said it helps physicians work more efficiently by incorporating EHR data into Glass, thereby enabling physicians to focus more on patient care.

While Google Glass hasn’t been the blockbuster that the search engine giant had maybe hoped, it appears that healthcare is still a viable application of the divisive device. Augmedix, headed by CEO Ian Shakil, said it is operating in 10 states, including five national health systems like Dignity Health.

Other health startups working directly with Google Glass include Remedy and Pristine, to name a couple.

Augmedix has more than 100 employees in offices worldwide, with 80 in its San Francisco headquarters facility, and plans to significantly expand its workforce in 2015.

“This new round of funding demonstrates that Google Glass is thriving in the enterprise space, particularly in healthcare,” Shakil said in a statement.
