Deloitte’s Healthcare Practice today unveiled its latest offering in the EHR space with Evergreen, which it says can help reduce hospital IT costs by as much as 30 percent and improve analytics and reporting.

It can do so by using what Deloitte calls a “global staffing model” and a standardized design that is easy to work with. The EHR approach can be scaled for large academic medical centers, but it may be particularly attractive for mid-sized healthcare systems, many of which struggle with transitioning to new EHRs that are now a key part of any hospital’s reimbursements from Medicare under Meaningful Use, according to Deloitte.

Evergreen is modeled after Deloitte’s approach developed for Denver-based hospital operator Catholic Health InitiativesEpic deployment, building upon its history in managing other application management services engagements. It also leverages Deloitte’s analytics and reporting programs and wraps clinical transformation and workflow optimization into the approach, said Mitch Morris, principal for Deloitte Consulting and its global healthcare leader.

Catholic Health Initiatives was the first provider to implement the full Evergreen approach. The company said Evergreen is increasing its ability to capture, analyze and share information.

“Evergreen is part of our vision to become a forerunner as health care moves to a value-based model,” said Michael O’Rourke, chief information officer at CHI, in a statement. “It will enhance our ability to deliver the right treatments to the right patients at the right time, with improved quality and reduced costs.”

Morris said there is “tremendous” market potential for Evergreen.

The roll out by Deloitte follows recent EHR news of cloud-based EMR developer athenahealth acquiring Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center’s webOMR.

A Deep-dive Into Specialty Pharma

A specialty drug is a class of prescription medications used to treat complex, chronic or rare medical conditions. Although this classification was originally intended to define the treatment of rare, also termed “orphan” diseases, affecting fewer than 200,000 people in the US, more recently, specialty drugs have emerged as the cornerstone of treatment for chronic and complex diseases such as cancer, autoimmune conditions, diabetes, hepatitis C, and HIV/AIDS.
