A new investment group called Sky Ventures Group has just launched in Boston, with plans to provide seed funding to early stage life science and healthcare companies.

It intends to hold a semi-monthly investor meeting, during which four vetted startups will pitch their concepts to the group. Currently it consists of more than 60 angel investors, corporate investors, family offices and more who meet to gauge whether they want to help seed a company or a concept, Sky Ventures managing partner Eyal Geffen said.

Sky Ventures Group says it’ll front between $100,000 and $4 million in seed investment, running the gamut across the life sciences and healthcare – it’s interested in biotech, pharma, medical devices, diagnostics, digital health, health IT, mobile healthcare, healthcare services and industrial biotech. On top of funding, it’ll offer access to lab space and mentorship, Geffen said.

“There have been a lot of changes in the market – angel investors are getting better organized, more startups are crowdfunding, and you’re seeing large corporations collaborate with startups,” Geffen said. “There are dramatic changes in terms of early stage funding – so we’re bringing together a mix of leading investors to jointly make investments.”

There aren’t any membership fees to join this particular investor network or attend the meetings, but it’s invite-only, Geffen said. This isn’t a venture capital firm – Geffen didn’t indicate how much money, if any, is managed by Sky Ventures. But it’s an interesting concept: An organization to get an array of investors in front of promising startups.
