Sherpaa, the New York-based telehealth business co-founded by CEO Cheryl Swirnow and CMO Dr. Jay Parkinson – a big naysayer of video conferencing for primary care — has raised an additional $2.25 million from investors to expand the business, according to an emailed statement.
Among the investors that participated in the round were O’Reilly AlphaTech Ventures, Softbank and Draper and Associates.
Parkinson said the company has racked up 100 customers, according to a statement. It charges each a monthly fee.
The three year-old company has raised $8 million to date for its service. It works with company HR executives to give employees round the clock access to physicians through a phone or text message. It encourages users to text their symptoms and images when relevant. It also provides insurance navigators to address questions employees have about coverage.
At ViVE 2024, Panelists Share Prior Authorization Progress and Frustration in Payer Insights Program
At the Payer Insights sessions on Day 1 of ViVE 2024, a panel on prior authorization offered compelling insights from speakers who shared the positive developments in this area after years of mounting frustration. Speakers also shared challenges as they work with providers to figure out how policy developments and technology will work in practice.
In response to emailed questions, Swirnow said the funding would be used to continue to work on its processes and offerings in the New York area before expanding to sell in other states in 2016.
Last year Sherpaa raised $3.92 million to ramp up its primary care services. It added an interface from Ducksboard to help it view in real-time how clients use services. It assessed how many cases were solved without the patient needing an in-person visit. It also notes the types of questions users have asked and how many phone call queries their physicians receive each month. It also collaborated with Johns Hopkins School of Public Health.
