In the run up to the MedCity CONVERGE conference, we’re highlighting some of the companies that have taken part in the Startup Showcase.
A couple, such as RightCare Solutions and 1DocWay, which took part in the first year of CONVERGE’s Startup Showcase in 2012, were acquired. In a phone interview, Samir Malik, CEO and Co-founder of the telepsychiatry company now known as Genoa Telepsychiatry, said this of the experience:
“It’s definitely an important platform to earn credibility…We had one-on-one meetings with a pharmaceutical company, a hospital, a payer,” Malik said. “That intersection is very helpful because people are looking at where the opportunities are in innovation and healthcare and to get feedback from a host of stakeholders certainly helps.”
Earlier this year 1DocWay, which also graduated from DreamIt Ventures‘ accelerator in New York, was acquired by specialty pharmacy business Genoa, a subsidiary of QoL Healthcare Co. Malik said since the deal in November last year, the company has been given a fair amount of autonomy and independence. It still calls New York home for its headquarters.
“Our objective is to grow the telepsychiatry business and improve access,” Malik said. But one area where it has become more aware of a need for its services is community mental health centers, particularly people with special needs. Malik said this group spans developmentally disabled patients to seniors with dementia.

This year, the Startup Showcase will include companies such as Twine Health, InSpark Technologies and MORE Health.
We’re looking for digital health startups no more than three years old that have not raised more than a Series A round, and biotech and medical device startups that are no further than Phase 2 trials.
If accepted, in exchange for a $299 fee, selected companies gain access to the conference, a second ticket at half price, and the opportunity to network with healthcare decisionmakers.
Startups will also get showcase space and be able to network with thought leaders across healthcare. We’ll also recognize them on MedCityNews.com. Follow this link to apply.
You must apply by June 15. So don’t delay. We look forward to you taking part in our event.
