Meridian Bioscience Europe to distribute intestinal test in Italy

The test, Quantum Blue Calprotectin, differentiates between inflammatory bowel disease and irritable bowel syndrome. More than 2 million Europeans have inflammatory bowel disease and 30 million have irritable bowel syndrome, according to Meridian, and the company says using the test will avoid unnecessary colon tests and save patients and health systems money.

Meridian Bioscience gets FDA clearance to add swine flu claims to rapid flu testing device

Meridian Bioscience Inc. has received clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to add two strains of 2009 H1N1 Influenza A virus -- swine flu -- to the sensitivity claims made by its TRU FLU flu testing devices. Though the company has "avoided speculation" about the potential upsides for revenue and profits because of the global swine flu pandemic, it said Tuesday it expects net income to rise between 15 percent and 20 percent by this time next year.

Meridian Bioscience sees flat profits, lower sales in second fiscal quarter

Medical laboratories ordered fewer diagnostic test kits and related products from Meridian Bioscience Inc. during the first three months of the year because of a weak global economy, a weak flu season and too many kits already on inventory shelves. Earnings of the Cincinnati, Ohio, life sciences company fell only 1 percent to $7.3 million, or 18 cents a diluted share, from the year-ago quarter, thanks to sales of higher-profit products.
