ELYRIA, Ohio — Home medical equipment maker Invacare Corp. has appointed Dale LaPorte as a director.
LaPorte retired from Invacare in December as senior vice president of business development and general counsel.
He fills the board seat vacated last month by Retired Marine Corps General James L. Jones, who resigned because he had been appointed as National Security Advisor to President Barack Obama.

Before joining Invacare in 2005, LaPorte was a partner at Cleveland law firm Calfee, Halter & Griswold LLP where he served as chairman from 2000 to 2004.
The addition gives Invacare 11 directors, eight of whom are considered independent of the company.
