WASHINGTON, D.C. — Two companies from Greater Cleveland focusing on biological technologies will receive $6.5 million out of a total of $24.5 million of U.S. Defense Department money for Ohio projects that support the research and development of technology for military use.
STERIS Corp. in Mentor will get $4.5 million to develop a Military Medical Decontamination System based on best practices that decrease hospital-acquired infections in military health facilities. These infections threaten patient safety and increase health costs.
Sherwin-Williams Co. in Cleveland will get $2 million to support the development of PaintShield for Protection from Microbial Threats — a coating technology for interior paint that would combat microbiological hazards to protect America’s military rom airborne microbiological threats.
