Wood County Hospital executive to chair Ohio Hospital Association’s board

Stanley Korducki of Wood County Hospital has been tapped to chair the OHA’s board of trustees in a one-year term beginning Jan. 1.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The president of a Bowling Green hospital has been elected chairman of the Ohio Hospital Association‘s board of trustees.

Stanley Korducki of Wood County Hospital has been tapped to chair the OHA’s board of trustees for a one-year term beginning Jan. 1, according to a statement from the OHA. Michael Stephens, president of Sycamore Medical Center in Miamisburg, preceded Korducki as chairman of OHA’s board.

The OHA’s board is charged with setting policy and strategic direction on issues affecting hospitals in the state. The OHA has been a vocal opponent of a franchise fee that the state has imposed on hospitals as a means of balancing its budget. The fee, which took effect at the end of last month, is expected to cost hospitals $718 million in fiscal 2010 and 2011, the OHA has said. However, raises in reimbursements from the federal Medicaid program, as well as other reimbursements, are expected to offset the fees to $145 million in two years, the association said.

OHA members have complained that the fee, which the organization refers to as a “tax,” would stifle job growth. However, two Northeast Ohio hospitals — the Cleveland Clinic and University Hospitals — have in recent weeks announced aggressive hiring plans for 2010 that could include as many as 2,300 new jobs.
