A Rochester couple seeking a new trial in a malpractice suit against Mayo Clinic have lost their appeal, according to the Post-Bulletin in Rochester. The Minnesota Court of Appeals Tuesday ruled against Nancy and Michael Becker, adoptive parents and guardians of Nykkole Becker, who died of brain damage Mayo doctors failed to detect, the lawsuit said.

Techne Corp., a Minneapolis-based maker of proteins and antibodies, said second quarter profits increased nearly five percent to $24.7 million (66 cents per share) from $23.6 million (62 cents a share) during the same period a year ago. Revenues jumped six percent to $65.5 million from $61.9 million during the second quarter 2009.

The Pine County City Council has approved a special tax zone for the Elk Run BioBusiness Park but not everyone is happy, according to Finance & Commerce in Minneapolis. The sole “no” vote came from Council Member Jayne Krause. She opposed the plan because of what she said were bad business dealings between a family member and Tower Investments and a previous promise that no tax dollars would be used to finance the project.
