MENTOR, Ohio — US Endoscopy has introduced the Talon grasping device to help doctors extract food and other objects from patients’ digestive tracts and airways.

The Talon device, which is used with an endoscope, was designed to mimic the grasping abilities of an osprey, US Endoscopy said in its product release. Its four stainless steel prongs are hooked, designed to grip impacted meat or other objects strongly and securely from several angles, the company said.

“The Talon grasping device is a prime example of US Endoscopy’s ability to listen to the needs of our customers and create unique, problem-solving solutions,” said Gulam Khan, the company’s CEO and co-chairman, in the release. “Food bolus and foreign body cases can be challenging and time consuming. The Talon device offers an unparalleled, purpose-built design to improve efficiencies during these procedures.”
