Aspen Surgical Products Inc. has acquired the blades and scalpels business of Becton, Dickinson and Co. for an undisclosed sum.

Aspen’s acquisition of BD’s Bard-Parker business beefs up its line of products for operating room use, according to a statement from RoundTable HealthCare Partners, the Illinois-based private equity firm that owns Aspen.

Aspen sells a wide variety of medical products including surgical needles and skin markers, disposable light handles, instrument guards, anti-fog products and fluid management products. Its brands include Richard-Allan, Dr. Fog, Sterion, Colby, Steriseal and Oxboro.

As part of the deal, Aspen picks up a factory in Puerto Rico that manufactures Bard-Parker’s scalpels and blades.

RoundTable has been aggressive about funding Aspen’s growth through acquisitions since it bought the firm four years ago. The Bard-Parker purchase marks Aspen’s sixth acquisition in that time, according to the statement.

Other RoundTable portfolio companies include dermatology drugmaker Aqua Pharmaceuticals and Argon Medical Devices, which develops vascular-access and patient-monitoring devices. RoundTable manages about $1.9 billion in capital, according to the statement.
