More than 1,000 healthcare executives, investors, entrepreneurs and clinicians are expected to descend on Northeast Ohio as the Cleveland Clinic kicks off its annual Innovations Summit on Monday afternoon.
The title of this year’s summit — the eighth such conference the Clinic has hosted — is “Obesity, Diabetes and the Metabolic Crisis.” The agenda calls for speeches and panel discussions on the genetics of obesity, innovative anti-obesity medical devices and new ways of treating diabetes, among many other topics.
The most recognizable name for non-industry insiders is TV star Dr. Mehmet Oz, who’s scheduled to present with Clinic wellness guru Dr. Michael Roizen on the “epidemic” that obesity and Type 2 diabetes have become. Other heavy-hitters expected to speak or participate in panels include the chief executive officers from Stryker Corp., McKesson Corp., Covidien PLC and Amylin Pharmaceuticals.
Reducing Clinical and Staff Burnout with AI Automation
As technology advances, AI-powered tools will increasingly reduce the administrative burdens on healthcare providers.
Attendees will have a chance to watch video of a live metabolic surgery narrated by Dr. Philip Schauer, director of Cleveland Clinic’s Bariatric and Metabolic Institute.
Shortly before the conference wraps up Wednesday, a Cleveland Clinic panel is set to release its annual Top 10 list of medical innovations in 2011. A removable hearing and communication device that treats patients who have lost hearing in one ear took the top spot in last year’s list.
